The benefits of green tea for dieting is the many health benefits it provides and a recent study proves that it may decrease body fat. Green tea has been proven to fight cancer and heart disease and now can be added to a healthy diet as a daily supplement. A recent study in Japan found that a bottle of tea fortified with green tea extract consumed for 3 months caused a larger loss of body fat compared to those who drank regular oolong tea.
1. Polyphenols are plant based substances that have antioxidant, anticancer and antiviral characteristics found in most teas. Polyphenols also posess anti-bacterial and skin rejuvenating capabilities.
2. Green tea is rich in catechins which is a type of polyphenol. With antiflammatory and anticancer properties already, green tea has a positive effect on reducing body fat and cholesterol levels.
3. Black tea, oolong tea and green tea come from the Camella Sinesis plant. Before steaming and drying the green tea leaves are the only ones that are not fermented.
4. Catechins were tested on a group of Japanese men with similar weights, body fat percentage and waist sizes. The idea was to monitor the effects of catechins on body fat and weight loss.
5. The test group was split into 2 groups to perform a 3 month test. One group drank a bottle of oolong tea fortified with green tea extract with 690 milligrams of catechins while the second group drank the same amount of oolong tea with 22 milligrams of catechins.
7. The calories and fat intake was regulated at breakfast and dinner for both groups.
8. The study proved that after 3 months the men who drank the green tea extract lost 5.3 pounds compared to 2.9 pounds with the other group. The LDL bad cholesterol levels also went down and they experienced a decrease in their waist size and total body fat.
9. The amount of tea and steeping time will determine how much catechins are contained in each cup consumed. Four cups a day are recommended and green tea extract supplements are available.
One of the main benefits of green tea for dieting is the prevention of various diseases. It has been proven that body fat may be reduced with green tea extract incorporated in a daily diet regimen.
